Summer blogging.
June 23rd, 2011 § 11 Comments
As I have mentioned in one of my previous posts I will be blogging for the flemish fashion magazine Label. the entire summer, which means that I will take a short summer vacation from my own blog. I’m really really really happy that the editor-in-chief Stéphanie gives me the opportunity to work with her and to build on my short experience with blogging.
After the 19th of August – D-day master thesis – I will have more time to focus on my blog again. So, please come back soon. And last but not least I want to give a major shout out to all of you who have read my blog! Taking a sincere bow to you.

So I promised to put the unedited images of my previous post online. As you can see I’m wearing a white sleeveless blouse and an old Moschino skirt that I bought at Jutka and Riska in Antwerp. Still wondering if that building is a sketch of a famous historical catholic church.
Sorry for the weird pictures, it’s clear that posing is not in my vocabulary =].

The perfect blurry shots

What makes a pretty picture? Retouching photos seems to be the most normal thing nowadays. Specialists who claim to be Photoshop surgeons use editing software programs to make female models look like flawless creatures from another planet. If there is a Photoshop heaven, there also must exist a world in which the strictly defined aesthetic ideals don’t count. Sarah Moon is one of those photographers who doesn’t capture famous top models in expensive clothes, but focuses on how blurry images represent luxury and nostalgia.
“Fashion photography is after all a difficult métier,” she says ’cause there are too many aspects to focus on: the styling, the make-up and the model. This is the reason why the women on her pictures are often out of focus and transformed into a compositional element to emphasize that there isn’t a particular definition of femininity. It’s not just about recording an image, it’s about making a statement.
That’s why I think her work deserves more attention. She isn’t a prisoner of codified rules, her photos have an incredibly fresh energy: the sensation of unreality in her images evokes a world of darkness and melancholy interwoven with sensuality, grace and purity.
To capture the essence of her work I have made my own blurry pictures. Albeit it’s difficult to copy her work, I like the special effect of the images. Let’s start a Sarah Moonesque revolution! What do you think? (In my upcoming post I will put the original unedited images online.)
Currently there is an exhibition of Sarah Moon at Botanique in Brussels!

Rumor has it that women seem to be better at multi-tasking than men ’cause they are capable of doing more than one thing at a time. Well, I would be the first person to deny that. Even though I’m ’just’ a student I’m not afraid to admit that I find it difficult to perform several tasks at the same time, especially when I have to study for my uni exams, to write a master’s thesis, to work during the weekends and to remember everything that I have learned at music school this year. Please can someone write a book ‘Multi-tasking for dummies’, I would be the first one to buy it! =) Anyway, looking forward to the 14th of June, last day of the exam period!
I just wanted to share with you what I have been doing lately:
*went on an internship interview at the Fashion Museum of Antwerp and I will be working together with Walter Van Beirendonck from mid-August to mid-September!

Sneak peek of an upcoming post! It’s a video for Puma Social Club including Catherine and myself aka the wannabe athletes of 2011! It’s our first self made video so be prepared to see two clumsy persons who haven’t been exercising for quite some time! Don’t know why but I have watched this video so many times and I still find it HI-LA-RIOUS! What do you think?
To all my lovely readers: Good luck on your exams! Yes we’re al dying – for the tenth, eleventh, twelfth time,… – but we’ll revive afterwards!

In last week’s post I wrote about the ‘High Tea Party’ I attended, an event organised by Bestseller and Listenup to celebrate the collaboration between Tiany Kirilove, the Belgian leading lady of fashion, and Vero Moda. Because I sat !front row! I had the opportunity to take a bizillion pictures! Let the polaroids speak for themselves:
Her collection will be released in the Vero Moda Stores and selected multi-brand boutiques September 2011!

Blouse Pins and Needles – Sweater Pins and Needles – H&M pants – Shoes Deena & Ozzy
Last Thursday I went to my first ‘High Tea Party’. Even though I didn’t wear a romantic blue-white puffy dress and over knee socks like Alice in Wonderland did, I was happy with the outfit that I wore that day, if I may say so. Moreover, it was nice to see that every attendant interpreted the theme of the party in their own way!
Why I chose to wear these garments? Well… too be honest I really don’t know, I’m not that type of person who racks one’s brains over it. By combining this classic blouse with an oversized knitted green sweater and the edgy studded high heeled sandals my outfit wasn’t too formal and still casual in some kind of way.
You love the cardigan? =) Unfortunately, this blogger has to admit that’s not an item from her closet. It’s part of a collection of a famous Belgian fashionista. A report of her clothing line will be published next week! All I can say right now is that these people and many other lovely peeps were part of it as well:

ReOrient: Asian fashion extravaganza
May 26th, 2011 § 8 Comments
Street fashion has become the most popular trend today, bloggers are the ones who offer daily outfit-uploads to express their sense of style and individuality. But their attention always goes to American and Western fashion trends, with this post I want to take a closer look at Asian Hah-rah-juu-kuu girly style or how punk and manga can be cute.
There was a time when Japanese teenage girls wanted to look like a premodern mutated Sailormoonish/Vengaboyish western version of Queen B during her High school years: preppy with bleached hair, fake tan, platform shoes and brightly coloured contact lenses.
But why did they want to ‘look’ like western people if they could make up their own no-nonsense-style? And tadah… that’s what hipsters around the area of the Harajuku station in Tokyo did. They opened the portal to a new world: Japanese schoolgirl fashion burned out and new subcultures emerged. It’s not like NY, don’t expect to see a Blair Waldorf-type walking around in ladylike dresses. But expect to bump into ‘sweetLolis’, ‘Ko-gals’, and ‘Bosozokus’ dressed in autre couture.

Today the Harajuku-style isn’t centered around Tokyo anymore, in the neighbouring countries there is this Japanese craze with fashion. Harajuku is a culture, you don’t need to join a club, you don’t need anyone’s approval! You can wear whatever you want. So if I’m going to Hong Kong or Tokyo again to capture the zeitgeist of Harajuku, can I wear this outfit?
I would start dancing with my Nikes (a gift from Nike & Pravda, many thanks, available in new metallic colours!), wearing this vintage dress from Episode, butterfly wings matching my flower headband and a necklace made out of Hello Kitty puppets.
Well, I think I could only impress them with my sneakers because it’s not a secret that Asian teenagers love to wear shoes of this brand. Maybe if I tell them that the upper part of the Nike Air Royalty High is made out of one piece of fabric - that’s unique!- they would shuffle with me!
And if they don’t believe me, well, they have to because Elodie O. likes them as well!

Tweet, tweet!

The new and improved mOONA Lisa.

Monsieur Maison
I’ve always wondered why people were intrigued by the Mona Lisa painting: Is it her smile? Or the fact that she looks like a Pre-Modern transexual with an unnatural cleavage line? Maybe she radiates beauty without being sexy? Yeah, I know weird questions, that’s how I roll, thinking like an historian, thinking outside the box.
But, how would a modern pretty Mona Lisa look like?
Well, Marie of the Pr company OONA could definitely be the new -and improved- and much better looking M(o)ona of the 21th century.
And what would she wear?
Or Forever 21?
Why not River Island?
And what kind of shoes?
Humanoid for special occasions?
Wy not two pairs? Michael Kors
What the heck, why not three pairs of shoes? Avance

Last but not least: Who would be payin’ for these pieces of garments, sandals and boots?
